New York Presbyterian Hospital hired Gertler & Wente Architects to consolidate disparate pediatric subspecialties into one 19,000 square foot floor of the Hemsley Tower. The design called for the subspecialties, including Genetics, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Child Development, Allergy/Pulmonary/Immunology, Neurology, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology, to be divided into two independent clinical pods, each with a nursing station, 8 exam rooms and doctors’ consult areas. The Vital Signs area and support space is central and accessible to both pods. A colorful, but sophisticated, palette of materials was used to enrich the various spaces including a mango colored 3-Form backlit circular wall as a backdrop to the reception area. There are individual seating areas with murals and raised ceilings in the waiting area. A picture gallery corridor leads north to the administrative wing which includes doctor’s offices, PA’s, nursing offices and staff support.
