Java Enterprises, a giant Singapore based plateware manufacturer, commissioned Gertler and Wente Architects to design a warehouse building that would serve as a hub for all British distribution of their product. The design includes a showroom and support offices. Located in an industrial park, the 30,000 sf warehouse component is designed to expand to 40,000 sf without interfering with the showroom/offices or the layout of the site plan. The warm tone of the concrete block base contrasts with corrugated metal panels on the sides and the roof. Red painted steel channels articulate an architectural rhythm on all four sides. The showroom and entrance are pulled out from the main building and are clad in enameled steel panels, concrete block, tinted glass and painted steel mullions. The design incorporated Feng Shui elements per the owners requests.
